[blood brother]

About a year and a half ago, I found myself with a single pass to the Santa Barbara International Film Festival. During the first weekend, I decided to go see a documentary that was showing called Blood Brother.

I'm not much of a crier...or at least that's what I tell myself. But I spent most of that hour and half long film in my seat, by myself, weeping. It told one of the most beautiful stories of friendship and love that I have ever witnessed, and struck a chord deep within me that I think so many of us miss sometimes.

"Blood Brother is a story of friendship. It’s a story of a life, stripped down to its essence. Most of all, it is a story about love, enduring in the face of death."

Do yourself a favor and watch it, and make all your friends watch it. This is a message the world needs to hear.

Disturb us, Lord, when we are too well pleased with ourselves,

when our dreams have come true because we have dreamed too little, when we arrive safely because we sailed too close to the shore.

Disturb us, Lord, when with the abundance of things we possess, we have lost our thirst for the waters of life,
having fallen in love with life, we have ceased to dream of eternity,
and in our efforts to build a new earth,
we have allowed our vision of the new heaven to dim.

Disturb us, Lord, to dare more boldly, to venture on wider seas,
where storms will show your mastery,
where losing sight of land, we shall find the stars.
We ask you to push back the horizon of our hopes,
and to push us into the future in strength, courage, hope, and love.
This we ask in the name of our Captain, who is Jesus Christ.

This.

[gratitude]

"Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend."
-Melody Beattie

Been feeling so overwhelmed with gratitude lately. In the midst of much darkness, His light
shines even clearer and truer.

Wonderful things so far today:

Waking up early to go run stadiums by the beach with my co-worker.  Driving to Carp with my roomie to get coffee and do nothing together. Jumping in the freezing ocean afterwards. Eating leftover pozole with fresh avocado on the couch. The sunshine.

And its only 1:30pm. Feeling grateful.

[a new year's resolution]

A New Year's Resolution:

"I’ve noticed something about people who make a difference in the world: They hold the unshakable conviction that individuals are extremely important, that every life matters. They get excited over one smile. They are willing to feed one stomach, educate one mind, and treat one wound. They aren’t determined to revolutionize the world all at once; they’re satisfied with small changes. Over time, though, the small changes add up. Sometimes they even transform cities and nations, and yes, the world."

Happy Christmas friends, happy day that we get to celebrate our King who came to earth to dwell among us so that we might have life. John 10:10...trip out on that.

Also some lovely things:

[city of angels]

Some shots from a little galavant to LA a few weeks back. Sometimes I forget that I actually really love this city. And the people in it :)
